Once you have removed the ghost drivers completely from the system, try to re plug the USB and see if it helps. Be careful that you do not change too many devices. Note that ghost devices, drivers, and services are “grayed” out, but that does not necessarily mean that you should delete all of them. I cant even format it because I get a Windows message that says: 'Please insert a disk in the backup drive'. For allocation unit size, I selected the default which is allocation size. This issue occurred after putting some videos on my flash. I tried pretty much everything to remove write protected and even ran a test through the usb flash drive tester software and it showed a bunch of fatal write protected errors. You can find your offending device, right-click, and choose I am having issues where I am unable to delete files from my pny 256gb flash drive as it is write protected.
